Doris has a life-limiting genetic disorder and a brain injury. Lissencephaly (smooth brain): She has cluster seizures, is tube-fed, and is a full-time wheelchair user. Due to Doris’s brain injury, she is unable to speak, talk, or walk, but regardless of her challenges, she adores the fresh air and takes trips outside with her family and sisters.
Mum said,
“We asked for annual passes to Paultons Park for Doris because it’s the one place all five of us can go, and we love it!!” There are big rides for Kris and Amelia, smaller rides and lots of parks for Poppy, and there are even a few rides Doris can go on in her wheelchair! They have a changing room, everywhere has smooth surfaces, there is lots of disabled parking, and they are all incredibly kind. Wheelchair users don’t have to queue, which takes a lot of stress away with the lack of queue noise. The good thing about passes is that if Doris has a bad day or a seizure, we can go home knowing we can come back anytime.
Doris absolutely loves all the gardens and outdoor settings; every time we go, we find something new! We cannot thank Genies Wish enough; this has been an incredible gift for Doris and us as a family.” With thanks to The Broyst Foundation, who read Doris’s story and donated to the charity, helping us grant this wish.
